Volleyball: New Knoxville 3, Houston 0

NEW KNOXVILLE – The New Knoxville volleyball team didn’t let up in anything Saturday as they defeated the Houston Wildcats in a non-league match at New Knoxville 25-9, 25-17 and 25-8.

“I was happy with the girls that they didn’t let up,” Rangers head coach Jill Roode said. “They didn’t stop playing hard. It is easy for them not to play up to their potential when they play non-league games.”

Paige Lehman led the team with 10 kills and Horstman and Reineke each had two aces. Horstman also had 27 assists and Kalyn Schroer had 17 digs.

In the JV match New Knoxville won in three sets 25-20, 23-25 and 25-17.

The Rangers (10-8) entertain Lincolnview today, at Delphos on Tuesday and home against St. Henry on Thursday.

Boys Soccer: Botkins 2, New Knoxville 1

NEW KNOXVILLE — Botkins scored a go-ahead goal with 1:02 left in the match and the New Knoxville boys soccer team fell to Botkins, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon.

Zach Egbert’s goal with 1:02 left proved to be the difference for Botkins.

Riese Fiegel had tied the game with the Rangers’ lone goal with 3:05 left in the match.

Ethan Zimpfer gave Botkins a 1-0 lead with 33:55 left in the second half.

The Trojans outshot the Rangers, 12-8.

New Knoxville travels to Cory-Rawson on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

The New Knoxville cross country team competed at the Anna Invitational on Saturday. For the varsity girls, Natalie Boyle was the  first Ranger across the finish line with a  time of 23:36. Tiana Heidt achieved her season PR.

For the varsity boys, Ryan Allen finished first for the team in a time of 20:19.

In the junior high races, Jacob Shaw finished in fourth place overall with a time of 11:38, a season best time. Also achieving their PRs in the junior high were Marcus Nitschke, Nick Thobe, Nick Topp, Lana Bizet, and Ingrid Miller.
