Tuesday's Sports Round-Up

St. Marys 4, Wapak 0: With a key Western Buckeye League match against Ottawa-Glandorf on next week’s horizon, the Roughriders earned a shutout in their fourth straight WBL match and beat rival Wapakoneta 4-0 on Tuesday at the West School soccer field.

After missing so many chances to score and coming up empty against Celina last week in a scoreless tie, St. Marys found the back of the net four times against their rivals to the East.

“It was nice because it stung a little bit in the last rivalry game we played against Celina,” St. Marys head coach Dave Ring said. “We finished four of them here where we didn’t finish against Celina.”

St. Marys has now earned a defensive shutout in five of its six WBL matches.

Zach Wilker, Zac Nelson, Nathan Wilker and Patrizio Martinez scored goals for the Roughriders, who improved to 8-0-3 and 4-0-2 in the WBL.

“Teams are packing it in against us and we’re beginning to figure that out,” Ring said. “It’s about getting it outside for the crosses and the headers. It’s there and we’re scoring.”

St. Marys, which is trailing O-G, which improved to 6-0 in the WBL, and Shawnee, which is 5-1, plays both the Titans and Indians over the next two weeks in final mad scramble for the league title.

NEW BREMEN 3, SHAWNEE 0:  The New Bremen volleyball team built up leads in each of the three sets and defeated the Shawnee Indians 25-19, 25-17 and 25-17 in a non-league matchup on Tuesday.
