TRACK: Minster boys capture Memorial title (with photo gallery)

MINSTER — The Minster boys track team won the Minster Memorial Invitational on Saturday, distancing itself from the rest of the 14-team field with 165 points on a soggy day. New Bremen finished fifth, St. Marys took seventh and New Knoxville was 14th in the boys standings.

The Minster girls team finished second to first-place Versailles (116 points) with 105 points. New Bremen finished seventh, St. Marys was ninth and New Knoxville took 15th in the 16-team girls event.

Boys Top Finishers

The Minster 3200 meter relay team won the with an 8:15.38 time, the 800 meter relay team won with a 1:34.86 time, the 1600 meter relay team won with a 3:37.11 time,

New Bremen senior Ben Chaney won the 110 meter hurdles with a 15.87-second time.

Minster senior Derek Collins was a double individual winner. Collins edged Delphos St. John’s Justin Stewart by just a tenth of a second in the 200 meter dash with a 23.64-second time. Collins also won the long jump with a mark of 20 feet, 11.75 inches. He also finished second in the 100 meter dash with a 11.56-second time.

Minster sophomore Paul Dues won the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 10 inches and winning a jump-off against Versailles’ Craig Pothast.

Minster swept the throwing events.

Wildcat senior Jake Winner caputred the discus throw title with a throw of 151 feet, eight inches. Minster’s Ryan Will took second with a throw of 149 feet, five inches.

Will won the shot put with a throw of 52 feet, one inch. Minster’s Wes Hegemann was second (46-2.5).

Second-place finishers were Minster’s Francis Slonkosky in the 1600 meter run (4:28.28) and the 800 meter run (2:01.23), the St. Marys 400 meter relay team of Adam Brown, John Phillippe, Tre Sherman and Dustin Fisher with a 53.26-second time, New Bremen’s Elliott Westerbeck in the 400 meter dash (53.31), St. Marys’ Brennan Brown in the 300 meter hurdles (43.44), Minster’s Dominic Slonkosky in the 3200 meter run (10:21.35) and the New Bremen 1600 meter relay team (3:44.42).

Girls Top Finishers

The Minster 800 meter relay team won with a 1:51.89 time, the 400 meter relay team won with a 52.33-second pace, and the 1600 meter relay team won with a 4:17.36 time.

New Bremen senior Kyleigh Suchland won the long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 0.75 inches.

Kayla Wuebker won the pole vault by clearing 11 feet, 3.5 inches.

Second-place finishers were Minster’s Hannah Barga in the 100 meter dash (13.28) and St. Marys’ Erin Kinkley in the high jump (4-10).
