Thursday Sports Round-Up


JACKSON CENTER — Minster scored seven runs in the first inning and coasted to a 13-2 run-rule victory over Jackson Center on Thursday.

Minster starting pitcher Austin Knapke allowed just two unearned runs in the first inning to earn the victory. He struck out six and didn’t walk any while giving up two hits.

Minster’s Devon Poeppelman went 3-for-4 with a double. Jay Eilerman was 2-for-3 with a triple. Ryan Hoying had two singles. Adam Niemeyer went 1-for-2 with a double.

Minster improved to 9-2 and will host New Bremen in a Midwest Athletic Conference game at 5 p.m.

Jackson Center slipped to 1-4 on the season.

O-G 5, St. Marys 0

The Ottawa-Glandorf tennis team defeated St. Marys 5-0 in a make-up match on Thursday night.

O-G’s Alex Schroeder won first singles over St. Marys’ Troy Newlove, 6-1, 6-2.

The Titans’ John Lammers won second singles, 6-1, 6-3 over the Riders’ Cole Brooks.

O-G’s Nathan Schmiedebusch won third singles, 6-1, 6-1, over St. Marys’ Jason Freewalt.

O-G’s Alex Kuhlman and Zach Bruskotter won first doubles, 7-5, 6-4.

The Titans’ Jeff Tobe and Brendan Drerue won second doubles, 6-1, 6-3, over St. Marys’ Tyler Parent and Jacob Little.

St. Marys dropped to 5-3 on the season, 2-2 in the WBL. O-G stayed unbeaten at 5-0.

The Roughriders travel to Elida today at 4:30 p.m. for another WBL match.


NEW BREMEN — The Minster softball team’s season-long assault on the scoreboard continued with an 19-0 win over rival New Bremen on Thursday night.

Minster scored multiple runs in every inning.

Minster’s Regan Hahn went 4-for-4 with four RBI and a double. Hanna Floyd went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Sara Hosey went 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBI. Alexis Robinson was 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Minster pitcher Kayla Richard struck out eight in the five-inning complete game victory.
