Taylor 2nd at district, headed back to state diving

OAK HARBOR — St. Marys junior Madison Taylor is returning to Canton and the Grand Lake St. Marys area dominated the top of the podium at the Division II girls district diving competition at Oak Harbor on Wednesday.

Taylor finished second and will make her second straight trip to the state competition. Taylor scored a 368.15, finishing behind only Celina’s Sawyer Weitzel and her 375.15 score. Taylor finished 15th in the state at last year’s state meet.

 St. Marys and Celina divers made up the top three spots and four of the top 10 finishes. The top nine divers advance to the state competition at the C.T. Branin Natatorium at McKinley High School in Canton. The Division II girls will compete on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m.

Celina’s Olivia Schlotterer finished third with a 353.65 score. The Bulldogs’ Trinity Voisin missed out on a state trip by one spot with a 325.45 score. St. Marys freshman Allison Sandberg took 17th with a 218.85 score.

Swimmers from St. Marys, New Bremen, Minster, Wapakoneta and Celina will compete at Cleveland State on Friday and Saturday in hopes of punching their tickets for Canton.
