St. Marys Man Arrested On Sex Charge

A local man was arrested on alleged sex charges from the state of Virginia.
John A. Wachauf, 58, 16920 State Route 116, St. Marys, was arrested on Monday following a warrant issued by law enforcement agents from Buchanan County, Va. Wachauf was taken into custody for allegedly soliciting a minor under the age of 15 via the Internet. The charge stems from an ongoing investigation in Virginia.
In a news release, Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon said Wachauf was taken into custody on Monday without incident. Deputies executed a search warrant and seized computers and other equipment.
While at the home, deputies allegedly found approximately 20 pounds of suspected marijuana. Solomon said that could result in additional charges in Auglaize County.
Deputies from the Allen County Sheriff's Office and officers Lima Police Department assisted in the arrest as they have expertise in electronic media searches and equipment. Members of the Grand Lake Task Force also assisted at the scene.
Wachauf remains in custody at the Auglaize County Jail pending extradition to Virginia.
