St. Marys Library To Host Crafters On Friday Mornings

ST. MARYS — Beginning in January, area crafters will have a meeting place to socialize with fellow crafters while working on their latest creation.

The St. Marys Community Public Library will host Friday Morning Handicraft Time starting Jan. 7. Adult Services Coordinator Beth Keuneke said the meeting will fill a void in the community.

“There are other places — not right in this community — that do have knitting circles and that kind of thing,” Keuneke said. “I thought I’d try it and see if it would work here.”

She noted she is a member of a group, and she enjoys the time she spends with her fellow crafters.

“I am part of a group,” she said. “We make prayer shawls, and it’s kind of neat to get a group together and knit and share ideas.”

Friday Morning Handicraft Time will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday mornings in the meeting room at the library. Keuneke said the weekly meetings are booked through most of the year.

Keuneke noted that crafters of any level of experience are welcome to join, and the meetings are targeted for needle crafts, including knitting, crocheting, tattering and embroidering, among others.

“We’re hoping to get some experienced knitters, crocheters and tatters, to help people who aren’t as experienced and want to learn,” she said. “That was the goal — to, without a formal class, have people teach each other how to do different things.”

Crafters should bring their own supplies to the Friday Morning Handicraft Time, Keuneke noted.

“No supplies will be provided,” she said. “We may have a pair of scissors, but that’s about it.”

Keuneke said the craft time provides a meeting place for the community to socialize while working on crafts.

“It’s a little community event for people to get together and work on the crafts together,” she said.
