Saturday Area Sports Round-Up

JACKSON CENTER — The New Knoxville baseball team blasted Jackson Center, 12-0, in five innings on Saturday morning.

Starting pitcher Jake Allen threw five shutout innings on the hill, striking out four. He also went 1-for-2 at the plate with two walks and two steals.

Michael Porter went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Spencer Wolf went 2-for-3 with a double. Adam Howe was 2-for-3 with a stolen base. Shane Topp tripled, Cody Shaw walked twice and stole a base.

New Knoxville hosts Fort Loramie tonight at 5 p.m.

West Liberty Salem sweeps twin bill from New Bremen

WEST LIBERTY — West Liberty Salem took a pair of games against the New Bremen baseball team on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers won the first game 10-3 and then won the five-inning second game, 7-4.

Jacob Gilberg, Clay Bertke and Alec Heuker each doubled for New Bremen in the opener.

The second game’s lead went back and forth. New Bremen struck first in the second game, scoring a run in the top of the first inning, but West Liberty Salem answered back with two first-inning runs of its own. The Tigers took a 4-1 lead through three innings, only to see New Bremen tie the game in the top of the fourth with three runs. West Liberty Salem went up for good with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.

David Zirkle had a big second game at the plate for New Bremen, with a double and a triple.

New Bremen falls to 1-5 on the season. The Cardinals host St. Marys tonight at 5 p.m.



ST. MARYS — The Flyers picked up a win  in a make-up game from earlier in the week. behind a six-run fourth inning. St. Marys’ Paige Dicus had two hits and two RBI. Tannar Rutschilling had two singles and an RBI.  Colleen Magee singled twice, and Amy Wiker singled. Mallory Kill threw three innings for the Riders before giving way to Jennifer Lauth, who struck out two in three innings.


DELPHOS — Michaela Goettemoeller homered as part of three extra-base hits for the Wildcats as they run-ruled Jefferson 21-0 on Saturday in their first win of the season. Alexis Robinson tripled and Regan Hahn doubled for Minster. Kayla Richard got the win in the pitching circle for the Wildcats.
