The Lincolnview Lancers were in the way.

The Marion Local Flyers won their respected Division IV sectional semifinal game in the daycap against Hardin Northern, opening the door for a rematch for the New Knoxville Rangers varsity girls basketball team.

And the Rangers were not going to let that opportunity slip by as they jumped on the Lancers early, withstood a Lancers’ run and put them away in the third quarter Wednesday night in a 64-36 victory at Allen East High School.

The Rangers will play Marion Local (13-11) at 8 p.m. on Saturday at Allen East High School.

New Knoxville (16-8) started the game with an 8-0 run and leading by as much as nine twice with the score at 10-1 and 13-4 at the end of the first quarter.

That large lead helped the Rangers as the Lancers went on a 6-0 run to pull within seven, down 20-13, with 6:00 left to play in the second quarter. The Lancers kept the game within seven at 22-15, scoring on four of their first six possessions of the quarter and scoring on three straight shots to threaten New Knoxville.

However, the Rangers' offense came alive, going on a 9-0 run to take a 31-15 lead with 2:49 remaining in the half as New Knoxville scored on four straight possessions. The Rangers ended the half on a 16-6 run with Kenzie Schroer scoring five of the Rangers' final seven points.

New Knoxville put the game out of reach in the third quarter by scoring on four of five possessions a couple of minutes into the quarter, en route to a 26-4 advantage to go up 51-25.

The Rangers outscored the Lancers 40-18 in the second half.

Rachel Leffel led the Rangers with 18 points and eight boards, Schroer scored 17 points, Jenna Schwieterman tallied 11 points and Abby Lageman contributed nine points and nine rebounds.
