OVI Checkpoint In St. Marys

Local law enforcement agents will be manning an OVI checkpoint in Auglaize County on Saturday.
The Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol announced the checkpoint will take place in St. Marys Saturday night. The exact location in the city will be announced Saturday morning.
“In 2015, there were 22 OVI-related crashes the Wapakoneta post responded to,” Lt. Scott Carrico said in a news release. “There were 374 fatal OVI crashes statewide in Ohio last year. Statewide, troopers made 24,373 impaired driver arrests in 2015 to help combat this traffic safety problem. OVI checkpoints are designed to deter impaired driving and remove those that don’t heed the warning.”
The checkpoint will be operated via federal grant money. By law, checkpoints and checkpoint locations must be announced ahead of time.
