Throughout the game, it was who can outdo the other, but with key plays at key moments, the Minster Wildcats defeated the Fort Recovery Indians 35-33 in a Division VII, Region 28 championship at Wapakoneta’s Harmon Field on Saturday.

At the beginning of the season it looked like the Wildcats would not even make it to the playoffs as they began the season at 2-4, but behind its eight seniors, Minster righted the ship are on a seven-game winning streak to reach a state semifinal.

Minster will play Blanchard Valley Conference foe McComb, who defeated Crestview in double overtime 35-28, at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Harmon Field as the OHSAA announced state semifinal pairings and locations on Sunday.

The Wildcats got on the board first when Bryce Schmiesing culminated a 13-play, 67-yard first quarter drive with a two-yard touchdown run and a 7-0 lead with 4:52 left. The Wildcats outscored the Indians 28-13 in the first three quarters.

But, the fourth quarter belonged to Fort Recovery, just not the gam, however.

The Indians brought a possession from the third quarter into the fourth and culminated the drive with a 41-yard touchdown pass from Martin to Andrew Stocker. The kick made the score 28-20 with 10:49 left.

After back-to-back punts, the Wildcats culminated a drive with a four-yard touchdown run by Huelsman with 4:36 left to make the score 35-20.

The Indians came back, scoring the final 13 points of the game on 26-yard scoring run by Homan and an eight-yard score by Martin to pull within two.

The Indians tried for the two- point conversion to tie the game but the pass by Martin was knocked down.
