GLSCL Baseball: Mariners fall to Docs, 8-5

DAYTON — The Dayton Docs scored three runs in the sixth inning to pull ahead for good in an 8-5 win over the Grand Lake Mariners on Wednesday night to extend the Mariners’ losing streak to three games.

The Docs put up the three-spot after the Mariners scored two runs in the fifth inning to tie the game, 4-4.

A Brian Bien RBI groundout and Brady Stewart’s two-run single off Mariner reliever Will Schierholz put the Docs up 7-4.

Dayton added an unearned run in the seventh inning off Trevor Kill, a Mariners righthander and St. Marys Memorial grad. Kill worked an inning giving up one hit and the unearned run after third baseman Michael Timm’s fielding error set up the inning.

Spencer Rohr, a New Bremen grad and Mariner outfielder,  started in left field and went 2 for 4 with a stolen base — his third of the summer.

Grand Lake (8-22)  jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning on Ryan Barnes two-run double.

The Docs then sent nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the fourth and put up four runs. Jesse Rait drove in two with a single, Sawyer Polen scored on a pass ball and Zach Mosbarger brought home a run with a fielder’s choice.

That was the end of the night for Mariners starter Dan Ditusa, who went three and one-third innings and gave up four runs while striking out two and walking two.

Grand Lake tied the game with two runs in the fifth on Kyle Haen’s RBI double and a Cody Meyer RBI single.

Grand Lake will try to snap a three-game losing streak when it  hosts the Lima Locos on Friday night at 7:15 p.m. at Jim Hoess Field at Westview Park in Celina.
