Emory B. Michel, 85

Emory B. Michel, 85, a longtime resident of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, St. Marys, died at 8:05 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Otterbein St. Marys.

He was born on Oct. 5, 1926, in Nova, the son of William and Ruth (Brouder) Michel.

He married Janet Consla on Dec. 23, 1950, in Beach City, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 3, 2008.

He is survived by his nephews David Brown of Dayton; Gary Thomas of Old Saybrook, Mass.; a niece, Ruthann Swenson of Boston, Mass.; and many other nieces and nephews.

Emory was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, having served during World War II. He was a graduate of Hiram College, with a degree in chemistry. He had a successful career as a chemical engineer and metallurgist for Thomas Strip Division of Pittsburgh Steel and at R.C.A., the precursor to the Harris Corporation. He retired from Harris Corp. in 1989, and he and Janet moved to Otterbein St. Marys in 1990.

He had been very active at Trumbull New Theatre in Warren, and at Fort Findlay Playhouse in Findlay. He served as past president of the Ohio Community Theater Association.

He was a member of Wayne Street United Methodist Church in St. Marys, and was active in Bible Study groups at Otterbein St. Marys, and in Findlay.

Funeral rites will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Meyer Community Chapel on the campus of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, the Rev. Vince Lavieri, officiant.

Private family burial rites will be held.

Friends may call one hour prior to services on Tuesday in the Meyer Community Chapel of Otterbein St. Marys, where memorial donations may be given to the Otterbein St. Marys Benevolent Fund.
