CROSS COUNTRY: Area teams run at Celina, Minster sweeps Schul Invite

CELINA — Cross country teams from all over the region ran a the Celina Rotary Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning on the campus of the Wright State Lake Campus.

Division II Boys: Celina took second and St. Marys was third in the six-team Division II boys standings. Celina’s Cole Merts won the Division II boys race with a 17:12 time, followed by St. Marys’ Nick Durkee in second with a 17:42 time. Other area top finishers were Celina’s Drew Donovan (4th, 18:40), St. Marys’ Alex Mielke (7th, 19:06), Matt Jutte (8th, 19:06), , Celina’s Jacob Gilstrap (9th, 19:28), Celina’s Zach Mitchell (12th, 19:44), , St. Marys’ Kyle Oswalt (14th, 19:58) St. Marys’ John Meier (16th, 20:07) and St. Marys’ Matt Shroyer (28th, 21:16).

Division III Boys: Coldwater captured the Division III boys title with 34 points, edging out St. Henry’s 35 points. New Knoxville finished fourth in the seven-team standings with 137 points. St. Henry’s Aaren Hemmelgarn won the boys race with a 16:49 time and Coldwater’s Dan Seas was second (17:19). New Knoxville’s Isaac Kuntz took seventh with a 17:36 time. Jacob Shaw was 19th with a  19:08 pace and Marcus Nitschke took 28th with a 19:52 time. Other Ranger top finishers were Spencer Wolf (22:31), Andrew Arnett (22:36), Lewis Mackie (22:50) and Daniel Boyle (25:25).

Division II Girls: Celina’s girls team won the Division II race with 48 points in the five-team standings. St. Marys finished third with 62 points. Celina’s Jenna Coon paced the Bulldogs with a first place finish and 21:59 time and Katlin Robins finished fifth (22:36). St. Marys’ Lexi Grothause was the first Roughrider girl across the finish line in ninth place with a 23:18 time. Hannah Tobin finished 11th (23:32), Marissa Schrolucke was 12th (23:32) and Amanda Dues was 13th (23:58). St. Marys’ Christine Sullivan (21st, 24:35), St. Marys’ Erin Kinkley (22nd, 24:41) and St. Marys’ Rochelle Sudman (24th, 25:20).

Division III Girls: Coldwater ran away with the girls title with 25 points. Fort Loramie was second with 69 points. New Knoxville was 5th with 132 points. Sarah Kanney of Coldwater was the individual winner with an 18:50 time, the first of three Coldwater runners to finish in the top three spots.New Knoxville’s Cassie Boyle finished fifth overall with a 20:52 time. New Knoxville’s Clara Shroyer was 15th (22:41) and Hannah Privette took 32nd with a  23:54 pace.

Minster captures Schul Invite victories

The Minster boys and girls cross country teams emerged with wins in the Division III races at the Bob Schul Invitational at Milton-Union High School on Saturday morning.

The Minster girls edged West Liberty Salem by one point to capture the D-III title. Minster finished with 54 points and seven top-20 individual finishes. Julia Slonkosky led the Wildcats with a fifth-place finish with a 20:06.4 time. Right behind her in sixth was Hannah Butler with a 20:20.4 time. Leah Niekamp took 10th with a 20:52 time.

The Minster boys won the Division III race by a comfortable 33-point margin over second-place Versailles. The Wildcats had three top-seven finishers and had a 56-point total. Dominic Slonkosky finished fourth overall with a 16:36.9 time to lead Minster. Eric Dahlinghaus was fifth with a 16:49.8 time. Andy Albers finished in seventh with a 17:05.8 time.
