Albert Heckler, 91

Albert Heckler, 91, of Celina, died at 6:04 p.m. on Good Friday of this Easter holiday, March 29, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys, of natural causes.

He was born on Dec. 14, 1921, in Celina, to parents Peter J. Heckler and Rose H. Wiseman Heckler, who preceded him in death.

On Aug. 24, 1946, he married Anna Rita Mestemaker, who survives in Celina.

He is also survived by two sons, Dr. Thomas and Sharon Heckler of Lima, Ralph and Marsha Heckler of St. Marys; a daughter-in-law, Lori Heckler of Montezuma; a daughter, Rosann Heckler of Coldwater; a brother, Maurice and Hannah Heckler of Celina; a sister-in-law, Phillys Heckler of Celina; four grandchildren, Christine Heckler, Elizabeth Heckler, Abby Heckler and Jeffrey and Julie Heckler.

He was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence “Larry” Heckler; by five brothers, twin brother Edward and Esther Heckler, Dale and Colleen Heckler, Carl and Mabel Heckler, Earl and Mildred Heckler and Wayne Heckler; a sister, Rita and Alvin Mestemaker.

He graduated from IC in 1941. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served as a Sergeant on the Front Line of the 83rd Infantry, 329th Regiment in France during World War II. During his service, he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

He was president of St. Marys Catholic Cemetery Board. He presented the Albert Heckler Award to Cheryl Ann School in his name. He retired from CBS Automotive.

Albert was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Celina VFW and American Legion, and served on the Advisory Board for Cheryl Ann School.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at IC church.

Burial will be held in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

Military Rites will be given at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home by the Celina VFW and American Legion.

Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Cisco Funeral Home in Celina.
