Richard A. “Rick” Moon III, 36, of 07507 Washington Pike, St. Marys, died on Sunday, March 9, 2014, near his home on Washington Pike.
He was born on Feb. 26, 1978, in St. Marys, the son of Richard and Cheryl (Carpenter) Moon.
He married Michelle Kittel on Oct. 25, 2008, and she survives in New Knoxville.
He is survived by his mother, Cheryl (Tony) Newberry of St. Marys; his father, Richard (Donna) Moon Jr. of St. Marys; by his children, Clay Taylor of Chicago, Ill.; Haylie Moon of New Knoxville; Colton Moon of New Knoxville; Kanyen Sexton of New Bremen; Dade Moon of New Knoxville; Remi Smith of St. Marys; by two stepchildren, Chase Boysell of New Knoxville and Skylar Boysell of New Knoxville. He is survived by a sister, Kelly (Jason) Bott of St. Marys. He is survived by his stepsiblings, Jodie Williams of Lima, Chuck Williams of Lima, Todd Williams of Lima, Tony (Rose) Williams of Lima and Jamie (Sherrie) Williams of Houston, Texas.
He is survived by his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Dicke of St. Marys; father-in-law Michael (Angela) Kittel of New Knoxville, stepgrandmother, Rosie Newberry of St. Marys, stepgrandmother, Lois Roettger of St. Marys.
He is survived by his nieces, Ashley Bubp, Rachel Bubp, Sarah Mabry and Emilee Bott and by great-nieces Payton Johnson and Adeline Randolph. He is survived by many other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Howard and Rachel Carpenter Sr., by paternal grandparents Richard A. Moon Sr., La Donna Dieringer and Orin Roettger.
Rick was a 1996 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School. He was employed at EMI Plastics in Jackson Center.
Rick enjoyed cooking and was and exceptional with cooking meals on the grill.
He liked to go hunting, fishing and trapping. He liked riding his four-wheeler. He was a big fan of the Cleveland Browns and Notre Dame and he coached his kids’ sports teams. His kids were the center of his life and he loved spending time with them.
Funeral rites will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, the Rev. Jim Sweigart, officiant.
Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to Dayton Children’s Hospital NICU.
