LIMA — The St. Marys wrestling team finished third at the 16-team Lima Senior Spartan Invitational on Saturday led by a trio of second-place finishes.
“We didn’t have anyone win, but it was one of those things where we had enough people finish in the top eight to score well,” St. Marys head coach Larry Gruber said about the depth of his squad.
The Roughriders scored 209.4 points, finishing behind only Tipp City Tippecanoe (236.5 points) and 2. Toledo Woodmore (235.3 points). Spencerville was fifth (199.6) and Delphos St. John’s took seventh (169.8).
St. Marys’ Garrett Hower finished second at 113 pounds. The Riders’ Luke Lemmerman finished second at 182 pounds. St. Marys’ Justin Nedderman was second at 106 pounds.
The Riders’ Chance Hicks finished fourth at 220 pounds. St. Marys’ Austin Quellhorst finished fifth at 126 pounds. The Rougriders’ Eddie Reier took sixth at 120 pounds. Spencer Knous of St. Marys was sixth at 195 pounds. The Riders’ Adam Vogel was seventh at 170 pounds, earning an 8-4 decision over Jefferson’s Aaron Parkins. St. Marys’ Boston Hensley finished seventh at 132 pounds. Devon McCollister finished eighth at 160 pounds.
St. Marys competes in a super-tri match at Celina on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m.
The Rider JV team finished second at the Benjamin Logan Invite. Bailey Sparks, Jonathan Vogel and Preston Cramer won titles. Keyton Liming took third. Patrick Day was fourth while Alex Schreima, Justin Watts and Trent Schoonover were all fifth.
