GREENVILLE — The St. Marys girls basketball team didn’t let the new year arrive without getting that breakthrough first victory of the season out of the way.
The Roughriders went on the road and beat Greenville 45-39 on Monday night.
St. Marys (1-9) used a balanced scoring attack to pick up the first victory. Erika Angstmann again led the Riders with 13 points. Lindi Cisco added nine points, Reagan Aller had six points, both Bailey Gottschalk and Lee Ann Bertke scored five points, Kelsey Rohrbach scored four points and Mallory Kill added three points.
St. Marys attempted 34 free throws in this whistle-laden affair, knocking down 19 of them. Greenville was 9 for 13 at the line.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak to Greenville.
Haleigh Luce led Greenville with 12 points.
St. Marys returns home on Saturday for a game against Sidney Lehman Catholic with a noon junior varsity tip-off time before getting back into Western Buckeye League play on Thursday, Jan. 9 at home against Elida.
