Harold J. Baumann, 75, of Kenmore, N.Y., a retired Buffalo school teacher, died on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2013, in hospice, at the Beechwood residence.
He was the first student from Regis High School to attend Canisius College. He began his career with Sears in the credit department and then decided teaching was the job for him.
He spent 30 years with the Buffalo Board of Education as a teacher and a truant (attendance) officer. He was a member of the school masters association and the Tuesday Morning Retired Attendance Teachers Breakfast Club.
Upon retiring from teaching, he worked part-time at the Brighton Golf Course. As the golfers know, he was an avid reader, always with a book close by.
Mr. Baumann was a parishioner of St. Paul’s Church in Kenmore, N.Y. He was a member of the St. Paul’s Holy Name Society.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, the former Barbara Starck; three sons, H. Joseph (Kathleen), Michael (Angela) and Gary (Lynn) Baumann; two daughters, Deborah (John) Zwez and Donna (Steven) Nicholas; 10 grandchildren, David, Derrick, Nathaniel, Alex, Jeremy, Michael, Noah, Eric, Julia and Lily; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond (Mary) Baumann; and a sister, Dolores (Fred) Schurr and the late Ethel (late Frank) Eckert; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at 9:15 a.m. today at St. Paul’s Church, 33 Victoria Blvd., Kenmore, N.Y.
Calling hours were from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at D. Lawrence Ginnane Funeral Home, 3215 Delaware Ave., Kenmore, where funeral was held at 8:45 a.m. today.
Entombment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Tonawanda, N.Y.
