James H. Maze, 80, of 700 Hillcrest Drive, St. Marys, died at 2:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, in the emergency department of Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.
He was born on March 13, 1933, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Clarence and Jessie (Jones) Maze.
He married Muriel Bensman on Aug. 3, 1957, at the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Minster; she survives at the residence.
He is survived by his eight children, Julia Maze of St. Marys, Michael (Carol) Maze of Bellefontaine, Mary (Wayne) Cooper of Dublin, Thomas (Teresa) Maze of St. Marys, John (Terri) Maze of St. Marys, William Maze of St. Marys, Carol (Dave) Lengerich of St. Marys and James Maze of St. Marys.
He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Mary Kay Maze of St. Marys and Lois Maze of Monroe, Wisc.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; by three brothers, Robert, Richard and Thomas Maze.
Jim was a 1951 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Korea during the Korean War. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in St. Marys. He later worked at Siferd Hosselman Company and Spring Flowers, both in St. Marys.
He was a member of American Legion Post 323; VFW Post 9289 and Eagles Lodge 767, all in St. Marys. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, and the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid woodworker.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Marys, the Rev. Barry Stechschulte, officiant.
Burial, with military honors conducted by VFW Post 9289 and American Legion Post 323, will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, where memorial gifts may be given to the Friends of Holy Rosary School.
