Grace M. Carmean, 85, of 1913 Cheshire Drive, St. Marys, died at 6:55 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the Golden Living Center, St. Marys.
She was born on Nov. 17, 1927, in Washington Township, Auglaize County, the daughter of Erbin and Luetta (Piepmeyer) Stienecker.
She married Francis “Brow” Carmean on Dec. 22, 1945, in New Knoxville, and he preceded her in death on March 27, 2013.
Grace is survived by her two children, Janet (Al) Meinerding of St. Marys and Jack (Lynne) Carmean of St. Marys; by nine grandchildren, Marcie (Jeff) Albright of St. Marys, Isaak Meinerding of St. Marys, John (Emily) Meinerding of St. Marys, Jakob (Ellyn) Meinerding of Cincinnati, Samantha Meinerding of St. Marys, Jason (Misty) Carmean of Wapakoneta, Jill (Nathan) Young of Marysville, Craig (Amanda) Carmean of Atlanta, Paul Carmean of St. Marys. She is survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a granddaughter, Katie Meinerding; by her siblings, Rolland Stienecker, Merlin Stienecker, Vernon Stienecker, Bernice Smith, Edith Rosengarden, Eunice Kohlreiser.
Grace retired from Brodbeck’s Market in St. Marys, where she had been a meat cutter. She had also worked at the former DWG Cigar Factory in St. Marys. She was a member of the DAV Auxiliary, and American Legion Auxiliary. She was an accomplished seamstress and an avid camper. She loved to go ballroom dancing and was a bingo volunteer at Auglaize Acres, DAV and American Legion. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in St. Marys.
Funeral rites will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 W. High St., St. Marys, the Rev. Dr. Ed Bray, officiant.
Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
