Marjorie L. Borden, 94, of 532 Southway Drive in St. Marys, died at 9:55 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Lima Memorial Health System.
She was born on June 24, 1918, in Piqua, to Kenneth and Edith (Cliff) Magill. She was raised by her paternal grandparents Fred and Ella (Smith) Magill.
On June 1, 1946, she married Robert R. Borden, who died on Aug. 29, 1990.
She is survived by daughter Robin (Charles Tester) Kantner of New Knoxville; two grandchildren, Kaia Kantner Zelt and Parrish Borden Gebhart; five great-grandchildren, Kayla Zelt, Lindsey Zelt, Hayden Zelt, Madelyn Zelt and Dylan Zelt; three nieces, Nancy Jane Lilly, Mary Helen (Dave) Sotak and Margaret Cecelia (Jim) Orgel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Edith Magill; husband Robert Borden; daughter Barbara Ann Gebhart; infant daughter Diana Borden; sister Helen Lilly.
She was a 1936 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School. She and her husband operated Borden’s Bait Shop at Grand Lake St. Marys for a number of years. In addition, she worked for St. Marys Decorating Company, St. Marys Woolen Mill and Leonhard’s IGA, all in St. Marys.
She attended Wayne Street United Methodist Church in St. Marys, and was a member of the Friendly Neighbor Club and JTDM Hospital Guild. She also served as an assistant leader for her daughters’ Girl Scout troop.
Her favorite pastimes included fishing and playing the game of bridge with her high school classmates. An accomplished seamstress, she made custom draperies and also served as an instructor for tole painting classes.
Rites are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West Chapel) in St. Marys, the Rev. Joy Miller, officiating.
Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
