NEW KNOXVILLE — A new face has taken over the treasurer’s seat at New Knoxville.
Cathy Doseck replaced longtime treasurer Marcia Wierwille this year, after serving as treasurer for the ESC in Shelby County. Doseck said she took the job because she was ready to be part of the day-to-day life of a school again.
“At the ESC I was in an office, and I didn’t see students or teachers,” she said. “I wanted to be part of the excitement students have for learning and they have for teaching.”
She enters the district at time when finances are at the forefront of the districts’ agendas across the state. District funding flat-lined this year with the governor’s proposed change in school funding. However, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel — Doseck said should the budget crunch continue, the district does have building bonds that will retire during the next 10 years, and as they retire, the taxpayers could choose to pocket the expired levy savings or if they’d like to take on some additional project to support with another levy.
Doseck is settling into the day-to-day life, and doing payroll for the first time in years, she said. She’s also looking forward to learning how to write and submit grant applications, something Wierwille did but Doseck has yet to try.
As she learns the nuisances of the new job, Doseck said she was glad she chose New Knoxville.
“I was interested in New Knoxville because I was familiar with the support the community gives to the school and to the activities the kids do,” she said.
