Shirley A. Lageman, 77, of 10357 Kettlersville Road, New Knoxville, died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys following an extended illness.
She was born on Aug. 3, 1935, in Auglaize County, the daughter of John and Carrie (Christler) Elsass.
She married James Lageman on Feb. 14, 1959, and he survives at the residence.
She is also survived by her four children, Barbara (Wayne) Bateman of O’Fallon, Mo., Annette (Donald) Siegler of West Chester, Jeanette (Fred) Coulson of Loveland and Mark (Sarah) Lageman of New Knoxville; by her 10 grandchildren, Nick Siegler, Belinda Bateman, Denver Coulson, Zachary Lageman, Shelby Bateman, Austin Coulson, Ryan Lageman, Abigail Lageman, Jonah Lageman and Caleb Lageman; by siblings Marge Daugherty of St. Marys, Richard Elsass of New Knoxville, Ted Elsass of Celina, Sharon Clark of Shawnee.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; by her siblings Howard Elsass, Berniece Whetstone, Warren Elsass, Gerald Elsass, Donald Elsass, Ned Elsass and Bonita Hughs.
She was a 1953 graduate of Buckland High School. She was a very active member of Faith Alliance Church in New Bremen, where she had taught Sunday School for many years. She was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, traveling, music, and playing games with her grandchildren.
Funeral rites will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Alliance Church in New Bremen, the Rev. Tom Sager, officiant.
Burial will follow at German Protestant Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church, where memorial gifts may be given to either World Vision, The Compassion Mission Fund or Ohio Right To Life.
