Alma E. Kuest, 97, a resident of the Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Living Community and formerly of 20 S. Franklin St. in New Bremen, died at 7:10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013. She was born on Jan. 5, 1916, southeast of New Bremen, to John and Wilhelmina (Brueggeman) Kuest.
She is survived by a great nephew Daniel (Kim) Schroer and family of Cedarville, three great-great nephews, Ken (Meredith) Weibel, Colton Schroer and Logan Schroer; one great, great niece Karissa Schroer, and two great, great- great-nieces Marin and Lucy Weibel. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Henry Kuest; two sisters, Hilda Kuest and Esther (Kuest) Schroer; a brother-in-law Emil Schroer; and by a nephew, James Schroer.
For 19 years, she was a sales clerk in the 5-and 10-cent store in New Bremen. She was a 1933 graduate of New Bremen High School. She enjoyed making scrapbooks and has made many interesting books throughout her lifetime. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, in New Bremen, and of the Capsule. For 34 years, she was a Sunday School Teacher in the Junior Department and a member of the church choir. She also served as a member of the Board of Christian Education.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Meyer Chapel of the Otterbein Retirement Community of St. Marys, the Rev. Becky Strang, officiating.
Burial will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of the services Sunday at Otterbein of St. Marys.
Memorial contributions may be made to Otterbein St. Marys Benevolent Fund or St. Paul United Church of Christ Memorial Fund in New Bremen.
