Area boys basketball teams were in action on Friday night:
NEW KNOXVILLE 56, MARION LOCAL 49, OT
MARIA STEIN — The New Knoxville boys basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter and controlled the overtime to earn a 56-49 win over Marion Local on Friday night at The Hangar.
The Rangers’ first Midwest Athletic Conference win of the season came with a big night from beyond the 3-point arc. The Rangers hit 11 three-pointers and went 11-of-22 from long distance — including 7-of-11 in the second half.
Andrew Arnett scored 14 points to lead New Knoxville. Jake Allen added 12 points and Ryan Lageman had 11 points.
The guard-oriented Rangers overcame the balanced scoring and size of the Flyers. Nate Hess scored a team-high 13 points for the Flyers. Adam Bertke added 10 points.
New Knoxville improved to 2-0 in overtime games this season. The Rangers outlasted Anna in double overtime in early December.
Marion Local led 23-22 at the half and opened up a 34-29 lead heading into the fourth quarter. But New Knoxville outscored the Flyers 13-8 in the fourth quarter and 14-7 in the overtime to earn the win.
New Knoxville will travel to Jackson Center to face the Tigers (9-2) tonight. Jackson Center beat Houston, 41-39, on Friday night in Shelby County League action. Marion Local won the junior varsity contest, 39-37.
NEW BREMEN 52, COLDWATER 38
NEW BREMEN — New Bremen jumped out to a 12-2 lead and 17-2 after one quarter and kept the pressure on to defeat the Coldwater Cavaliers 52-38 in a home Midwest Athletic conference contest.
New Bremen got off to a great start as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first two minutes. Coldwater didn’t get a chance to score until Caleb Siefring had a chance for two free throws, but he missed both shots.
In the first quarter Coldwater was 1 for 14 from the field with five turnovers.
The Cardinals out-rebounded the Cavaliers 32-27 in the game with Ben Homan having 12 rebounds along with eight points.
Justin Heitkamp led the Cardinals in scoring with 14 points and seven rebounds. Bruns led Coldwater with nine rebounds.
Coldwater (3-5, 0-2) will travel to National Trail tonight, while New Bremen (9-2, 3-1) will travel to Covington.
DELPHOS ST. JOHN'S 69, MINSTER 62
DELPHOS — Delphos St. John’s used free throws in the fourth quarter to top Minster and hold to a 69-62 victory, as the Blue Jays stayed unbeaten in Midwest Athletic Conference play.
Delphos St. John’s Curtis Geise scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Blue Jays.Eric Clark had 13 points. Buescher added nine points and Seth Bockey finished with eight points and seven rebounds.
Minster's Adam Niemeyer and Devon Poeppelman both finished with 18 points and Ethan Wolf had 15 points.
