Elmer N. Hemmelgarn, 89, of Russia, formerly of St. Rose, died at 9:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Versailles Health Care.
He was born on Feb. 23, 1923, in St. Sebastian to the late Theodore and Marie (Timmerman) Hemmelgarn.
He married Regina Rose on Aug. 11, 1948, in St. Henry, who survives in Russia.
He is also survived by his children, Nancy and George Eubanks of Seattle, Wash., Kathy and Chuck Dyas of Marysville, Don Hemmelgarn and Gayle Heitkamp of London, Wanda and Ray Miller of Chesapeake, Va., Elaine McArthur of Dublin, Al and Deb Hemmelgarn of Justin, Texas, Beth and Mark Heitkamp of Tipp City, Maria and Terry Daugherty of Russia, Lou and Leandra Hemmelgarn of Topeka, Kan.; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Rose Catholic Church, the Rev. Gene Schnipke celebrant.
Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Russia from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Friday.
Burial will take place in St. Rose Cemetery with full military honors. The family requests donations be made to The Center for Neurological Development.
