ST. MARYS — Friends and family are coming together in December to help a local resident in need.
A “Fun Night” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at the St. Marys VFW to help Dave “Stubby” Whetstone cover his medical expenses. Whetstone in currently battling cancer.
“He has a ton of friends and a heart of gold and will do anything for anyone,” said Newt Triplett, an organizer of the event. “We had a benefit chicken dinner at Dave Wright’s on Celina Road and sold 500 chicken dinners and made a few thousand dollars. Now, we are trying to have a fun night and at least match that.”
The event will feature two musical acts — DNA and Dean Axe. Each is donating their time for the cause.
“They know and love Stubby,” Triplett said. “We also are going to raffle off some items and have 50/50 drawings — just whatever we can do to help.”
Triplett is hoping for a large turnout.
“Just please come out and enjoy an evening of fun,” Triplett said.
“Come out and support Stubby, who is in his hour of need and also have a great evening to boot. He’s got a lot of friends out there. Even if you don’t know Stubby, it will be a great night of music and fun. There’s going to be great food, too.”
Dave Wright also will have a stand at the event offering sandwiches to guests.
Admission to the event is $5 per person. For those who cannot attend, donations are being accepted at Minster Bank for Stubby.
“He’s a deserving guy going through a tough time,” Triplett said. “Sometimes it’s hard to concentrate on getting better when you have giant medical bills hanging over your head.”
