Norma Jean Smith, 79, of 14 Defiance Commons, Wapakoneta, died at 4:07 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
She was born on Feb. 16, 1933, in Auglaize County, near New Knoxville, the daughter of Raymond and Viola (Klute) Wierwille, and they preceded her in death.
She is survived by her two children, Glen (Nancy) Smith of Wapakoneta and Gloria (Frank) Counts of Sidney; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a dear friend, Kenneth Brown Sr. of Wapakoneta; two brothers, James Wierwille and Ned Wierwille, both of New Knoxville; a niece, Cathy (John) Rupert of St. Marys; a nephew, Jim Wierwille of Cridersille.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas “Tony” Wierwille; a daughter, Theresa Smith; a stillborn son.
Norma attended high school in New Knoxville. She retired from Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys, after 27 years in the housekeeping department.
She enjoyed dancing and loved working on puzzle books. She was a member of Wapakoneta Eagles Lodge 691. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville.
Funeral rites will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 W. High St., St. Marys, with the Rev. David Williams officiating.
Private family burial rites will be held at a later date.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to Putnam County Hospice.
