The St. Marys Roughrider volleyball team put together a strong fifth set and defeated the Greenville Green Wave 20-25, 25-13, 26-24, 21-25 and 15-5 on Monday.
“We started a little slow in the first set,” Riders head coach Tricia Rosenbeck said. “In the second and third sets we started to play more aggressively. In the fourth set we played off and on, but we put everything together in the fifth set.”
Reagan Aller led St. Marys with 10 kills and seven service aces. Katlyn Brown had 16 assists. Natalie Kuenning led the Riders with 11 digs.
Breana Russell put the Riders ahead in the fifth set with the first three serves. With the score 6-3 in favor of St. Marys they outscored the Green Wave 9-2 on three serves from Aller and Angstmann for the 15-5 victory.
“In the fifth set we came out serving aggressively and swinging,” Rosenbeck said. “That was the best that we have played in a while.”
In the JV match St. Marys won in three sets.
The Riders (5-9) will entertain Defiance in a WBL match on Thursday.
NEW KNOXVILLE 3, JACKSON CENTER 2: The New Knoxville volleyball team won a deciding fifth set to defeat Jackson Center 26-24, 25-19, 18-25, 26-28, 15-6 on Monday. New Knoxville improved to 11-3 on the season with the win heading into Thursday’s key match at Marion Local. New Knoxville’s Meg Reineke led the Rangers with 13 kills. Taylor Niemeyer had nine kills. Haley Horstman had eight kills and Rachel Leffel added seven kills.
