ST. MARYS — The Parkway Panthers team came from behind Saturday afternoon to defeat the Fort Recovery Indians 23-25, 25-18 and 25-20 to win the St. Marys Roughrider Volleyball Invitational.
The host Roughriders finished fifth in the six team invitational. They defeated the Old Fort Stockaders 25-13 and 25-19. In the third place match Allen East defeated Spencerville in three sets 25-22, 12-25 and 25-19.
“We finished today more polished than when we began the day,” Riders head coach Trisha Rosenbeck said. “It was just our communication and intensity and attitude that were a lot better. I don’t know what happened in the first match.”
In the first matches Parkway defeated Spencerville 25-12 and 25-17. The Riders fell in their first match 25-15 and 26-11 to the Allen East Mustangs.
“We didn’t do much right in the first match,” Rosenbeck said. “In the first set we tried to comeback but we were not doing much right to get back in the set. We were making mistakes and they were capitalizing.”
In the second round of matches Spencerville defeated Old Fort 25-20, 21-25 and 25-17 and Fort Recovery defeated Allen East 27-25 and 25-23.
In the third round of matches Parkway defeated Old Fort 25-17 and 25-19, while the Riders came back to defeat Fort Recovery 20-25, 25-22 and 25-22.
“We played with more intensity in this match,” Rosenbeck said. “We talked and communicated a lot more.”
