Richard A. “Dick” Whyte, 73, formerly of St. Marys, died of natural causes on Monday, April 23, 2012, at his residence in North Fort Myers, Fla.
He was born on Aug. 8, 1938, in Dayton, to George and Ruth (Honican) Whyte, and they preceded him in death.
He is survived by his former wife, Linda Bruns of Celina; two daughters, Julia (Jonathan) Kraner of Celina and Liana Whyte of Greenville, S.C.; his grandsons, John “Adam” and Samuel Sites of Celina; a granddaughter, Jessica Whyte of Greenville, S.C.; six stepgrandchildren; three great-stepgrandchildren; a sister, Carol Tormala of Lakeport, Fla.
He was preceded in death by a brother, George B. (Jerry) Whyte.
He was a 1956 graduate of Memorial High School in St. Marys and attended Miami Jacobs Business College in Dayton.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1957 and retired as an Air Traffic Controller Chief Petty Officer.
Subsequently, he was employed by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office. He relocated to Florida in 1980 and was employed by Florida Auto Air and First Federal Bank until retirement.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Wayne Street United Methodist Church in St. Marys, with the Rev. Jon Kraner officiating.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the hospice provider of the donor’s choice.
