ST. MARYS — Featuring a new location and hours, the St. Marys Farmers’ Market will return this weekend, bringing area residents a variety of homemade goods.
St. Marys Farmers’ Market Treasurer Karen Williams said the market has been moved to 1700 Celina Road, next to Dave’s BBQ, and will feature a later set of hours.
“It’s going to be starting this Saturday, June 2, and we’ve changed the hours,” she said. “It will start at 9 (a.m.) and it will go until 1 (p.m.). It used to be from 8 a.m. to noon, so it gives people a little longer to get there.”
Williams said organizers hope the change in location will bring more area residents to the farmers’ market.
“We’re hoping for a larger crowd this year,” she said. “More visibility and easier access. They don’t have to walk quite as far from either parking lot to get to the farmer’s market.”
The change may also bring more business to Celina Road.
“We’re hoping to bring more business out toward (Ohio) 703 and the merchants in that area,” Williams said.
She noted the St. Marys Farmers’ Market will again be home to several staples in addition to a few new vendors.
“We will have produce, baked goods, woodcrafts, handmade purses and local honey,” Williams said of the items that will be available at the farmers’ market.
This year’s farmers’ market will welcome two additional vendors.
“We have two new vendors coming this year,” Williams said. “One is an author and the other sells baked goods.”
Anyone interested in selling their homemade or home-grown goods at the St. Marys Farmers’ Market can still sign up, she said.
“We are looking for anyone interested in being a vendor at the farmers’ market,” Williams said.
“We do require that it’s either home-grown or homemade … We’re even looking for people that write their own books or that kind of thing. It includes local artists also.”
She stressed the goods for sale must be home-grown or homemade.
“We don’t want it to turn into a flea market or something like that, we want to keep it like a farmers’ market,” Williams said.
Interested vendors may get more information at SMFarmersMarket.weebly.com.
“That will have an application and all the details on becoming a vendor at the farmers’ market,” Williams said.
The St. Marys Farmers’ Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through Sept. 29 at 1700 Celina Road in St. Marys.
