NEW BREMEN — It was the Minster Wildcat boys team and the Versailles Tiger girls team that came home with the first-place trophies in the annual Midwest Athletic Conference track meet held Friday at New Bremen.
Minster won the boys title with 173 points behind a dominating first day on Wednesday in which they swept the field events. They closed it out with a strong Friday night in the running events along with Alan Tebbe's victory in the pole vault. Versailles was second at 105 and Delphos St. John’s was third at 56.5. New Bremen was fourth at 66 points and New Knoxville was eighth with 30 points.
“This was the first time since I have been coaching that we swept the field events,” Minster head coach Larry Topp said. “We have never done that before and it is pretty exciting. To finish up in the 4 x 400 relay like we did winning going away. You can look at all the events and everybody stepped up. I don’t know if I ever had a meet set up like this.”
On the girls side Versailles beat Minster 147 to 105.5 points. Coldwater was third with 105.5 points. New Bremen was fifth with 50 points and New Knoxville was 10th with 25 points.
New Bremen dominated the hurdles with Elaynne Speckman and Ben Chaney sweeping the 100, 110 and 300 hurdles on Friday.
Local Boys Winners
Chaney of New Bremen swept the 110 and 300 meter hurdles with times of 15.43 and 42.52 seconds.
Alan Tebbe of Minster won the pole vault at 13 feet.
Derek Collins won the 200 meter dash with a 23.35-second time.
Local Girls Winners
Speckman swept both the 100 and 300 meter hurdle races with times of 15.80 and 47.79.
The Minster girls won two relay races on Friday night.
In the 4 x 100 the team of Hannah Barga, Kayla Wuebker, Cassie Jutte and Sara Dahlinghaus won in 50.20.
Minster (Hannah Barga, Sara Dahlinghas, Olivia Enneking and Sam Hoelscher) won the 4 x 200 in 1:46.57.
