Donald G. McName Sr., 82, of Lima, formerly of Buckland, died at 9:27 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012, at Koester Pavilion in Troy.
He was born on April 6, 1929, in Buckland, the son of Walter E. and Ruth (Flarida) McName, and they preceded him in death.
He is survived by three children, Donna Clawson and Ronald Bornhorst of Piqua, Donald G. McName II of Lima and Hope J. Sterling and Kenneth L. Keller Lander of Wyoming; five grandchildren, Jamey Clawson, Joe McName, Jill Bechtol, Kim (Mark) Bonnalie and John (JT) Sterling; four great-grandchildren; his former spouses, Dorothy Sneary and Inez Lotters; a brother-in-law, Dick Wilges of Wapakoneta; a sister-in-law, Barbara McName of Wapakoneta.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robby McName; a sister, Lou Wilges; a brother, Kenneth McName.
Don retired in 1994 from the Ford Motor Co., Lima Engine Plant after 34 years of service. He was a former member of the Bethlehem Christian Union Church and a 1947 graduate of Buckland High School.
He served with the U.S. Army 58th Ordinance AMMO Co. during the Korean War.
A life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, Lima, Don’s other memberships included the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 691, Wapakoneta, B.P.O.E. Elks 45, the Fraternal Order Orioles Nest 173 and the Loyal Order of the Moose Ch. 52, all of Lima. His hobbies included ballroom dancing and big band music.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, State Route 501, Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Brad Colley officiating.
Burial is to follow in the Buckland Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and one hour before the service Monday at the funeral home.
