ELIDA — The Minster duo of Kayla Wuebker and Bridget Geiger combined to outscore the entire Elida team and the Wildcats won the Vicki Mauk Holiday Invitational with a 71-29 victory on Thursday night.
“It’s a tournament we enjoy. It’s over the holidays,” said Minster head coach Nann Stechschulte. “It’s nice to just come away with two wins.”
Minster improved to 5-2 on the season.
After finishing Wednesday night’s game against Miller City game with no points, Wuebker broke out with a game-high 22 points against Elida.
“I’ve been waiting for this to happen and hopefully she’ll get on a roll here. She’s very capable of scoring,” Stechschulte said of Wuebker. “Last year, she was one of our best scorers. I think she’s just been trying to do too many things. She just kind of relaxed tonight and looked like she was having fun, versus just putting a lot of pressure on herself.”
Geiger, a junior, scored 17 points.
“I’ve said this since last year, if she only knew how could she could be … she’s just starting to get into the flow of things,” Stechschulte said of Geiger. “I’m excited for her. I think the sky’s the limit for her. She’s a scorer. She’s got the scorer mentality and she’s starting to work harder on defense too to become more of a complete player.”
Kayla Albers scored 10 points and Claire Fischer had 9 points for Minster.
Osha Owens scored 8 points for Elida, while Ericka Smith added 6 and Lowry scored 5.
Minster (5-2) will host New Bremen next Thursday.
