Leona A. Steinemann, 92, of 02725 Minster Fort Recovery Road, Minster, died at 6:49 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at Elmwood Nursing Center in New Bremen.
She was born on Jan. 26, 1919, in Fort Loramie, to John and Anna (Schlater) Borchers, and they preceded her in death.
On Jan. 31, 1940, at St. Michael Church in Fort Loramie, she married Carl B. (Jim) Steinemann, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 2007.
She is survived by her children, Karen and Ben Dwenger, Connie and Rich Bergman, Ann Stucke and Kevin and Bonnie Steinemann, all of Minster; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Agnes Winner of New Bremen and Mary Lou and Homer Bornhorst of Fort Loramie; two sisters in-law, Luella Borchers and Henrietta and Sam Dosek, both of Fort Loramie.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Clarence, Herbert, Anthony, Louie, John and Al Borchers; four sisters, Martha Hilgefort, Mildred Barhorst, Emma Kaiser and Helen Barga; a son-in-law, Delbert Stucke.
Leona was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Minster. She was a bereavement coordinator for the parish for 20 years and was a member of the resurrection choir of the church.
She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Minster and the Farm Bureau Council Advisory Council.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed playing in many card clubs.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday St. Augustine Catholic Church, with the Rev. Rick Nieberding officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster.
Memorial donations may be made to the Glenmary Missions or to Elmwood Nursing Center Activity Fund.
