FORT RECOVERY —The Fort Recovery girls basketball team picked up a 55-30 win over the St. Marys Roughriders on Saturday night at the Fort Site Gymnasium.
The Indians, playing in their first game since losing to Anna in the Division III state championship game last spring, scored the final seven points of the first quarter and the last nine points in the second quarter.
Kylie Kahlig scored 12 points to lead a balanced Fort Recovery attack. The Indians had nine players get into the scoring column, including 10 points from Olivia Schwieterman.
Entering a new season with almost all new faces in the rotation and breaking in a new system, Roughriders head coach Kelly Fulmer wasn’t all that displeased with Saturday night’s effort from her team.
“It’s tough to say you’re satisfied with a loss, but I thought we did some really good things,” St. Marys head coach Kelly Fulmer said. “I can take it. Obviously we want to win, but I’m pretty proud. We’re trying to get into a groove and see what we can do on the fly as far as changing defenses, changing up offense. We need some time to break in and get this season going.”
Reagan Aller led St. Marys with nine points, with seven of those coming in the first quarter.
St. Marys travels to Kalida on Thursday night.
