Olga Elizabeth (Merkle) Nave, 91, of Rockford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at Swan Creek Nursing Home in Toledo.
She was born on March 13, 1920, in Van Wert, to Lewis and Bertha (Parker) Merkle, and they preceded her in death.
In December 1942, she married Ralph H. Nave, and he preceded her in death in 1993.
Olga is survived by her three children, Kathy Nave of Maumee, Pamela (Richard) Walen of Toledo and Scott (Jody) Nave of Sandusky; two siblings, Margaret (Lloyd) Baker of St. Marys and David (Barb) Merkle of Ohio City; a sister-in-law, Jennie Merkle of Montezuma; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Olga was preceded in death by three siblings, Marie (Merkle) Lessner, Lewis (Jennie) Merkle, Martha (Merkle) Pudsey; two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Baker and Ralph Pudsey.
She graduated from Rockford High School of which she was also a secretary. Olga was a nursing home aid at Smith Nursing Home, Brownie and Girl Scout leader, village of Rockford clerk, First Presbyterian Church Sunday school teacher and an officer of the church. She was an avid gardener and member of the Rockford Garden Club. She volunteered for many years at Shane Hill Nursing home. She enjoyed visiting with friends and family and was well known for her pies, especially rhubarb custard.
Olga met her loving husband, Ralph, while waitressing at the Celina Coffee Shop. Ralph was employed at the Brookside Dairy in New Knoxville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Miller - Long & Folk Funeral Home in St. Marys, with the Rev. Richard Hays officiating.
Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
