Roy A. McMurray, 96, St. Marys, died at 2 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at his residence.
He was born on Feb. 4, 1915, in Celina, to Arthur and Imogene (Eshelman) McMurray, and they preceded him in death.
On Sept. 3, 1980, he married Norma Jean Horn Turner, and she survives him.
He is also survived by three stepsons, Gene (Gretchen) Turner of St. Marys, Ted Turner of Celina and Joe Douglas (Faye) Turner of George Town, Ky.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Lana Turner; five brothers, Charles, Donald, William, David and Richard McMurray; three sisters, Mary Eberle, Ruth Brodbeck and Betty Bolts.
Roy was a 1935 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School. He served his country from 1940 to 1946 in the U.S. Army during World War II. He spent most of his life working as a carpenter.
He was a member of Hillsdale Baptist Church in St. Marys.
He was a life member of the St. Marys Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289, the St. Marys American Legion Post 323 and the Disabled American Veterans.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the Cisco Funeral Home of St. Marys, 1175 E. Greenville Road. The St. Marys Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289 will hold services at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Harold Liess officiating.
Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys, where military honors will be given by the St. Marys Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the wounded warrior project. Arrangements are by Cisco Funeral Home, St. Marys.
