Grand Lake Mariners 13, Lake Erie Monarchs 10
CELINA — The Grand Lake Mariners’ early offensive exploits were enough to hold off the Lake Erie Monarchs in a wild Great Lakes Collegiate Summer League game at Jim Hoess Field on Thursday night.
The Mariners (2-4) scored five runs in the bottom of the second and six runs in the fourth to propel them to a 13-10 win.
Mariners catcher Jason Bagoly, a sophomore from Kent State, had a big night at the plate by going 4 for 6 with a home run, a double and six runs batted in. Bagoly is now 10 for 20 this season with seven RBI in five games played for the Mariners.
Mariners second baseman Mel Skochdopole, a University of Dayton freshman, added a home run on a 1 for 2 night with two runs batted in and three walks.
The Mariners now sit in third place in the North Division standings and will have a chance to make up ground on second-place Lima Locos (6-3) tonight with a doubleheader against their GLSCL rivals at Jim Hoess Field at 4 p.m.
