Sept. 23: Free Computer Classes will be held at 1 p.m. today at the St. Marys Community Public Library. Three sessions cover the most basic skills from using the mouse to surfing the Internet.

Adults are invited to enjoy some tasty Book Bites at the FJ Stallo Memorial Library at 6 p.m. today. Bring a treat inspired by or from a book you have read. The group will discuss books that were enhanced by food descriptions, recipes, and scenes made memorable with food references. The participant with the best dish will be awarded a prize. Registration required.

Deputies Probe Man's Death

ST. MARYS — Deputies from the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office investigated the death of a 29-year-old St. Marys man on Friday.

At approximately 3:03 p.m. Friday, a 911 call was received reporting that a 29-year-old male was unresponsive at a residence north of St. Marys on Ohio 197.  Deputies and Spencerville EMS responded and found the subject deceased upon arrival.

Rider Excels On Golf Course

ST. MARYS — Carter Bowman used to be a football player.
When he was 6, Bowman’s father took him golfing for the first time, and it was then they discovered that Bowman had a talent for the sport.
By age 10, he was golfing every weekday starting at 6 a.m., when he and his grandfather would play 18 holes.

4 Arrested In Meth Probe

CELINA — Four people were arrested on Thursday as a result of an investigation in connection with an alleged methamphetamine lab.

On Thursday, Mercer County deputies and Celina police officers applied for and were granted a search warrant for a residence and property located at 2521 Mud Pike, Celina. Two active methamphetamine cook operations were allegedly discovered while serving the search warrant.

 Taken into custody were the following individuals:

• Lloyd Fickert, 57, owner of the property, 2521 Mudpike, Celina.

Taylor Visits County

ST. MARYS — A familiar face visited Auglaize County on Thursday as part of a re-election effort for Gov. John Kasich.

Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor was the guest speaker at the Auglaize County Republican Fall Dinner at Galaxy Starlite Campground in St. Marys. Taylor has been touring the state as the re-election campaign revs up as Election Day draws closer.

3 Injured In Collision

NEW KNOXVILLE — Three people were injured in a collision that involved two commercial vehicles in New Knoxville Wednesday morning.

According to a report from the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, a Maharg, Inc., garbage truck was parked in the northbound lane of Ohio 29 and its driver, Mark Ganger, 42, of Van Wert, exited the vehicle to collect trash. A 2006 International semi driven by Nicholas Lore, 41, of St. Marys, was also northbound on Ohio 29 and attempted to pass the garbage truck.

Squad Adds To Its Ranks

MINSTER — The Minster Area Life Squad shared a double victory with village councilors Tuesday night.

The squad has been seeking members for six months to swell its ranks and offer an ability for more time off for members.

Squad President Travis Sudhoff said an influx of interested members are getting trained for their volunteer duties. They’ve also achieved success as a team in earning the support of Wilson Memorial Hospital in Sidney as their new medical director after taking on additional training to comply with the hospital’s requirements.

Illegal Dumping Becoming Serious Issue

ST. MARYS — City officials are in the process of developing policies to help curb illegal dumping and other unsanctioned activities at the former landfill.

In the past few weeks, the city has dealt with a number of issues at the facility ranging from illegal dumping to nonresidents taking mulch and other materials from the location. St. Marys Safety-Service Director Greg Foxhoven said the issues are starting to become a serious problem.

Sept. 13: The third annual Harvestfest will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds east gate entrance.

The St. Marys Farmers Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today next to Dave's BBQ on Celina Road.

Kids of all ages are invited to the New Knoxville Library from 11 a.m. to noon today to watch classic cartoons.

Zombiefest will take place from 3 p.m. to midnight today at the second shelterhouse along East Bank Road in St. Marys.

A storytime will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the New Bremen Public Library.

Preschool Storytime will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the New Knoxville Library. Kids ages 3, 4 & 5 (not yet in Kindergarten) are welcome.

Kids of all ages are welcome to stop in at New Knoxville Library from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today for a craft. Come in and make your own pencil holder.
