By MIKE BURKHOLDER Managing Editor ST. MARYS — A development body Tuesday afternoon voted to contribute to an economic study on Grand Lake St. Marys. Members of the St. Marys Community Improvement Corporation (CIC) agreed to contribute up to $500 for an economic impact study ordered by the Auglaize and Mercer Convention and Visitors Bureau on the lake. The study, CIC President Kraig Noble said, would benefit the entire region. “Several entities are contributing to the economic impact study of the lake to assist in getting grants to look at the problems with algae out there,” Noble told the newspaper. “The accurate data will help in that.” CIC member Todd Fleagle said the cost of the study is $2,000 and will be broken up among a handful of entities. Those include lake improvement groups and the city of Celina. “The Auglaize County commissioners may have it under consideration,” Fleagle said, noting if more groups join, the fee could decrease. “It’s to get the best information you can for grant submissions and get an accurate account of what’s going on.” CIC members moved into executive session to discuss property acquisition. No action was taken when they reconvened in regular session. Noble said the group is still exploring the option of entering into a master lease agreement with Riverside Apartments LCC to operate three storefronts below Hotel Fort Barbee. During their August meeting, CIC members voted to explore the option as a way to secure payments to the revolving loan fund pending the resolution of any code issues. The next meeting of the St. Marys CIC is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Oct. 6 in the city building located along East Spring Street. Automation by TeachMeJoomla |
