ST. MARYS — Wapakoneta convincingly beat what Redskin head wrestling coach Jason Rostorfer called the best Western Buckeye League foe his team has faced this season, 49-27, on senior night at Memorial High School on Thursday night.
The Redskins scored four straight pins in the upper weight classes midway through the match to take control.
“Getting pins is always huge,” Rostorfer said. “Having those older guys in the upper weights that are solid like that and get us bonus points, it’s huge for us. It paid off. It was 49-27 and it was mostly on bonus points.”

“If you’re going to give up pins, you’re going to have to come back and get some pins,” St. Marys head coach Larry Gruber said.
At 170 pounds, Holden Hengstler barely staved off a pin in the first period before recovering to pick up a pin of his own against the Riders’ Luke Lemmerman at the 2:20 mark.

“We really needed those pins, too,” Rostorfer said. “We preach to our guys, it’s not the points, it’s how we wrestle. I didn’t think we wrestled real well. We gave up some crucial points when we shouldn’t have. To St. Marys’ credit, they’re by far the most competitive team we’ve faced.”
