DEFIANCE — The St. Marys wrestling team finished eighth at the Western Buckeye League wrestling championships at Defiance High School on Saturday, while Wapakoneta added to its long line of league crowns with a runaway league title win.
The Roughriders scored 75 points.
St. Marys' Kaleb Chaney was the top finisher for the Roughriders, taking second place at 106 pounds.
Chaney fell to Wapakoneta's John Martin in the championship match via a pin at the 0:38 mark.
Wapakoneta won with 174 points and four individual champions, distancing itself from second-place Elida (138 points) and third-place Defiance (131 points).
St. Marys' Ryan Slife took third place at 160 pounds. Slife pinned Bath's Collin Wise at the 4:38 mark of the third-place match.
Neil Perry also captured third place with a 9-0 major decision over Kenton's Garrett Ray in the 182-pound third-place match.
St. Marys' Garrett Hower finished fourth at 113 pounds, losing a 5-1 decision in the third-place match to Bath's Jared Davis.
The Riders' Collin Reier took fourth at 170 pounds. Celina's Isaac Weitzel pinned Reier at the 1:20 mark of the third-place match.
Wapakoneta's John Martin (106 pounds), Holden Hengstler (170 pounds) and Alec Brown (182 pounds) won WBL titles.
Celina finished seventh with 86.5 points. The Bulldogs' Brandon Newland finished second at 285 pounds.Weitzel and Chad Braun (145 pounds) were third-place finishes.
