William R. Glover, 71, of 112 Marbello Court, St. Marys, died at 9:12 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2011, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born on May 25, 1940, in Cleveland, to William C. and Viola (Schmelter) Glover, and they preceded him in death.
On Oct. 10, 1970, in Celina, he married Shirley Adams, and she survives him.
He is also survived by two daughters, Della Driver of Troy and Jimmi (Robert) Stead of Troy; a son, Michael (Lyndi) Glover of Los Angeles, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Randi Stead, Robbi Lachat, B.J. Stead, Samantha Driver, Sarah Driver, Hudson Glover and David Driver; one great-granddaughter, Mallory Lachat; a brother, Thomas (Emily) Glover of Geneva, N.Y.
He was a graduate of Rhodes High School in Cleveland and Kent State University. He served as a member of the Ohio National Guard. He retired from the former Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in St. Marys, where he worked as a purchasing agent.
He was a member of Eagles Lodge Aerie No. 767 and American Legion Post No. 323, both in St. Marys, and the Moose Lodge in Celina.
An avid outdoorsman, he collected guns and knives. Prior to his debilitating illness, Bill took part in the adventurous pastimes of boat racing and waterskiing. He also immensely enjoyed the company of his canine companion, “Tiffany.”
Funeral services for Mr. Glover will be held at noon Tuesday, at Miller – Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 W. High St., St. Marys. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to a fund established to plant trees in Bill’s memory. Online condolences may be expressed to the family via Millerfuneralhomes.net.
