William R. “Bill” Yahl, 79,

William R. “Bill” Yahl, 79, of Botkins, died at 4:17 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.   

He was born on Sept. 17, 1932, in St. Marys, the son of Joseph and Martha (Greve) Yahl, and they preceded him in death.  

On Jan. 5, 1957, he married Mary K. Brown, and she survives.  

He is also survived by six children, Annie Yahl of Wapakoneta, Ruth (John) Winters of Tempe, Ariz., Mike (Teri) Yahl of Fryburg, Katie (Ronald) Schipper of Botkins, Lisa (Scott) Aufderhaar of Botkins and Roy (Lisa) Yahl of Lima; 16 grandchildren, John Edward and Michael Winters, Ryan and Kim Yahl, Aaron, Matt and Joe Schipper, Seth, Ben, Lily, Logan and Cole Aufderhaar, Nick Bailey, Josh, Jacob and Maddi Yahl; six siblings, Sister Rita Yahl, C.PP.S., Clara Lenhart, Rose Braun, Bob (Pat) Yahl, Joe (Connie) Yahl and Gene (Janice) Yahl.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Abigail Aufderhaar; five siblings, Irene Doseck, Jerome Yahl, Tony Yahl, Mary Brown and Emma Clements.

Bill retired from Brown Industrial in Botkins. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Botkins.

He served in the U.S. Army as an MP in Korea.  

His hobbies included playing cards, fishing, hunting camping, painting and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Botkins, with the Rev. Harold Brown, C.PP.S., officiating.

Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Botkins.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Long and Folk Chapel, 13 S. Blackhoof St., Wapakoneta.
