Wilbert F. Gruebmeyer, 95, of New Bremen, died at 8:10 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Elmwood Assisted Living of New Bremen.
He was born on Aug. 15, 1918, on the family farm outside of New Bremen.
He was the son of the late Fred and Flora (Wehrman) Gruebmeyer.
On June 20, 1945, he married Gladys C. Brockman, who preceded him in death on April 6, 2002.
Survivors include his children, Larry and Carol Gruebmeyer of Mesa, Ariz.; Wayne and Kathy Gruebmeyer of New Bremen; Ned and Marie Gruebmeyer of Tipp City; and Janet and Robert Eilerman of New Bremen; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Wilbert was preceded in death by two infant sons and his siblings, Jeannette Hegemier, Vilma Rump and Leonard Gruebmeyer.
Mr. Gruebmeyer was a faithful member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen. He was active in the church for many years, including serving as a trustee on the church council.
He was engaged in farming for his entire life, and in his spare time greatly enjoyed going fishing. Family was also a large part of Wilbert’s life.
His family was an important to him, and he always enjoyed the time they spent together.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen, the Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating.
Burial will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling hours will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen and one hour prior to the services on Monday at the church.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Paul Church Stained Glass Window Restoration Project.
