WBL Tennis Meet
LIMA — The St. Marys girls tennis team finished fourth at the Western Buckeye League tournament at UNOH on Saturday, and the Roughriders ended the season tied for third in the overall WBL standings.
St. Marys’ Alex Spencer finished third at second singles, defeating Van Wert’s Jenna Waterman in the third-place match.
St. Marys second doubles duo of Allie Zimmerman and Ariel Dodson finished third, defeating Shawnee’s Anita Kottopalli and Lindsey McKinley in the third-place match.
The Riders’ Katie Peterson took fourth at third singles, falling to Van Wert’s Katie Etter in the third-place match.
Celina won the WBL title, with Bulldogs winning WBL crowns at three of the five positions. Brianna Beougher won at second singles, Audra Manci and Katie Kerr won first doubles and Allison Laux and Miranda Werling won second doubles.
Cross Country: St. Marys at Kettering Invite
KETTERING — The St. Marys boys cross country team finished seventh and the girls squad took ninth at the Northmont Firebird Invitational.
The Roughrider girls took 9th at the 11-team event.
Hanna Tobin led the Riders with a 22:48 time.
Christine Sullivan finished with a 23:18 time. Sarah Wilker ran a 23:40, Marissa Schrolucke turned in a 25:12 time and Jessica Jeffries ran a 25:24.
Turning in a personal best time was Kaitlyn Murphy with a 35:04 time.
The St. Marys boys finished seventh in the 10-team boys field.
Nick Durkee’s 17:41 pace led the Roughriders.
Alex Mielke ran an 18:28, John Meier ran an 18:36, Kyle Oswalt turned in a 19:26 pace and Anthony Tenney ran a 19:32.
Running personal bests on Saturday were Daniel Miller (22:00) and Dylan Brown (23:42).
St. Marys travels to Coldwater Thursday night.
Best in the West — Botkins Invitational
BOTKINS — The Minster boys cross country team won the Best in the West invite on Saturday at Botkins, while the Minster girls took third.
New Knoxville’s girls team took ninth and the boys finished 11th.
The Minster boys won with 42 points, with second-place Versailles at 93 points.
Minster’s Francis Slonkosky finished second overall with a 17:16 time.
Other top finishers for the Wildcats included Dominic Slonkosky in third (17:21), Eric Dahlinghau in seventh (17:46), Andrew Fausey in 14th (18:15), Jonathan Fausey in 16th (18:20), Andrew Albers in 28th (18:45) and Ted Trzaska in 37th (19:04).
New Knoxville’s Isaac Kuntz was the Ranger’s top runner with a fifth-place finish and a 17:37 time. Other top Ranger runners were Daniel Boyle (20:48), Ryan Allen (21:00), Jake Allen (21:34), Andrew Arnett (22:00), Parker Stone (22:13) and Lewis Mackie (22:22).
Fort Loramie was fourth. Jacob Siegel took fourth (17:21). Spencerville was 10th. Aaron Hefner finished eighth (17:51).
The Minster girls finished third with 86 points, behind first place Versailles (42 points) and second-place Fort Loramie (63 points).
Gabrielle Barga led Minster with an 11th place finish and a 21:05 time. Other top finishers for the Wildcats were Olivia Enneking in 12th (21:14), Natalie Fausey in 17th (21:34), Samantha Hoescher in 22nd (21:49), Kayla Thien in 26th (21:55), Logan Arnold in 34th (22:11) and Nikki Borgerding in 36th (22:24).
Cassie Boyle led ninth-place New Knoxville with a fourth place finish and a 20:11 time. Other top Ranger runners were Clara Shroyer in 30th (22:01), Natalie Boyle (24:52), Tiana Heidt (25:34), Jesse Settlage (30:34) and Gabbi Kuck (31:11).
Fort Loramie’s Meg Westerheide finished third (20:06)and Spencerville’s Tori Hardest was 14th (21:20).
St. Marys 3, Fort Jennings 0
FORT JENNINGS — Brennan Brown scored two goals and Zack Wilker added a goal and two assists for the Roughriders in the 3-0 win over Fort Jennings on Saturday.
The Roughriders improved to 10-3 on the season.
Brown added an assist. Brown has 22 goals and 16 assists on the season for the Roughriders.
Wilker now has six goals and 13 assists for St. Marys.
Keeper Luke Leffel helped secure St. Marys’ seventh shutout of the season. He has 55 saves on the season.
St. Marys travels to Ottawa-Glandorf tonight.
Van Wert Invite
VAN WERT — Both the St. Marys and New Knoxville volleyball teams went 2-1 at the Van Wert invitational on Saturday, while New Bremen went 1-2.
The Roughriders topped Shawnee 25-6, 25-17, to start the day.
St. Marys then downed Elida in three games, 25-23, 26-28, 25-11.
Versailled defeated the Riders in a third game, 2-0.
New Knoxville went 2-1 in its three matches on Saturday.
The Rangers lost 23-25, 25-18, 21-25 to Versailles in its first match.
The Rangers topped Shawnee, 25-18, 25-15.
New Knoxville finished out the invite with a 23-25, 25-19, 25-8 win over host team Van Wert.
New Knoxville improved to 9-8 on the season with the wins.
Haley Dillon led New Knoxville for the day with 21 kills and added eight digs. Meg Reineke had 15 kills and 14 digs. Paige Lehman added 10 kills and 21 digs.Haley Horstman had 52 assists, three kills and eight digs. April Cain added five kills. Taylor Niemeyer had four kills. Kalyn Schroer added 38 digs.
New Bremen earned a win over Shawnee, 25-17, 25-8. The Cardinals lost a close three-game match against Kalida, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19. Van Wert beat the Cardinals in two games.
