WEEKEND ROUND-UP: Trio of area golfers fire 76s at Moeller Memorial

CELINA — Van Wert won the Jordan Moeller Memorial by 10 strokes on Saturday at the Mercer County Elks course, while a quartet of area teams finished in the top eight. New Bremen took fourth with a 338 team score, Celina finished fifth with a 340, Minster was sixth with a 340 and St. Marys finished eighth with a 347. New Knoxville finished 16th with a 418.

New Bremen's Darin Bergman, Minster's Freddie Purdy and St. Marys' Carter Bowman each shot 76s to lead their teams. St. Marys’ Colin Burke shot an 81. New Knoxville’s Tyler Shreve paced the Rangers with an 88.

VOLLEYBALL: New Bremen wins two

ANNA — The New Bremen volleyball team won a pair of matches at a tri-meet at Anna on Saturday. The Cardinals downed Anna, 26-24, 25-21, and then beat Covington, 25-12, 25-17.

Julie Brown had six kills and nine blocks in the first game to go along with Karli Jones’ three aces and 19 assists.

In the second game, Victoria Wente led the way with seven kills. Melissa Thieman added five kills. Meagan Brandt had nine digs.
